I am transitioning from my current position at ER Optics into a consulting role in the industry. I will offer Process trouble shooting and design in all aspects of precision optical fabrication and Metrology including Zygo Metro Pro Scripting, Complex process and machine design services and on site training of technicians in these areas. Look for my website: nssoptics.com in the next few weeks. The site will ultimately be built up into resource center featuring pitch and polish combinations and fab and polishing strategies for common precision IR and visible optics.

Interests:  Process and machine design, Metrology.

Metrology is the science of measurement. Metrology includes all theoretical and practical aspects of measurement. The word comes from Greek (metron), “measure” + (logos), amongst others meaning “speech, oration, discourse, quote, study, calculation, reason”. In Ancient Greek the term (metrologia) meant “theory of ratios”.

Metrology is defined by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) as “the science of measurement, embracing both experimental and theoretical determinations at any level of uncertainty in any field of science and technology.” The ontology and international vocabulary of metrology (VIM) is maintained by the International Organisation for Standardisation.

Metrology is a very broad field and may be divided into three subfields:

  • Metrological Traceability
  • Applied Metrology
  • Time and Frequency Metrology
